Australian artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alice Ivy has dropped her new single, ‘Popstar’. It’s a perfect blend of acoustic and electronic elements, with tight drums and a thick bass contrasting warm, ethereal synth sounds. The whole thing is wrapped up in beautiful production that makes a variety of interesting decisions that keep things interesting and upscale the alt-rock aesthetic. The track is a collaboration with Låpsley, with Ivy explaining: “I went in thinking we'd probably write something electronic or dance, more like those songs of hers I referenced, but for one reason or another we cranked out a massive angsty rock song, which is ironic because it's called, ‘Popstar’. I guess we were both just feeling super empowered in the moment.” Her new album, Do What Makes You Happy, drops later this year. -Dan Peeke
